چکیده

We present an analysis of Chandra observations of the galaxy clusters A2670 and A2107. Their cD galaxies have large peculiar velocities (> 200 km s) and thus the clusters appear to be undergoing mergers. In A2670, we find a comet-like structure around one of the brightest galaxies. At the leading edge of the structure, there is a cold front. The mass of the X-ray gas in the comet-like structure suggests that the galaxy was in a small cluster or group, and its intracluster medium (ICM) is being stripped by ram-pressure. The regions of cool interstellar medium (ISM) of the cD galaxies in A2670 and A2107 are very compact. This is similar to the brightest galaxies in the Coma cluster, which is also a merging cluster. In each galaxy, the short cooling time of the ISM requires a heating source; the compact nature of the ISM makes it unlikely that the heating source is a central active galactic nucleus (AGN).

The effect of variation of stellar dispersion velocities by the galactic latitude in interpreting gravitational microlensing observations

Our galaxy is a spiral galaxy and its stars are mostly in a thin disk and rotate around the galactic center. The vertical component of the dispersion velocity of stars is a function of the galactic latitude and decreases with increasing it. In the galactic Besancon model, this dependence is ignored and they just consider the dependence of dispersion velocity on the stellar age. Becanson model i...

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding  the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and  the distribution of the baryons is gal...

Using Galaxy Cluster Peculiar Velocities to Constrain Cosmological Parameters

Galaxy cluster peculiar velocities can be inferred from high–sensitivity, high–resolution multiple–frequency observations in the 30 to 400 GHz range. While galaxy cluster counts and power spectra are sensitive to the growth factor, peculiar velocities are sensitive to the time–derivative of the growth factor and are hence complementary. Using linear perturbation theory, we forecast constraints ...

Velocity Correlations of Galaxy Clusters

We determine the velocity correlation function, pairwise peculiar velocity di erence, and root-mean-square pairwise peculiar velocity dispersion of rich clusters of galaxies, as a function of pair separation, for three cosmological models: = 1 and = 0:3 CDM, and = 0:3 PBI models (all at and COBEnormalized). We nd that close cluster pairs, with separation r 10h 1Mpc, exhibit strong attractive pe...

Peculiar Velocities of Galaxy Clusters 32 LINEAR PREDICTIONS FOR THE PECULIAR VELOCITIES

We investigate the peculiar velocities predicted for galaxy clusters by theories in the cold dark matter family. A widely used hypothesis identiies rich clusters with high peaks of a suitably smoothed version of the linear density uctuation eld. Their peculiar velocities are then obtained by extrapolating the similarly smoothed linear peculiar velocities at the positions of these peaks. We test...
